All of Armada Robotics teams currently participate in the global program known as FIRST.

What is FIRST Robotics

FIRST is More Than Robots® - Founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organization that prepares young people for the future through a suite of inclusive, team-based robotics programs for ages 4-18 (PreK-12). Our programs are suitable for schools or structured afterschool activities and receive support from a vast network of volunteers, educators, and sponsor/donors, including over 200 Fortune 500 companies.

The FIRST Core Values are fundamental to FIRST and unique to its programs. They emphasize friendly sportsmanship, respect for the contributions of others, teamwork, learning, and community involvement and are part of our commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

FIRST programs engage students to work collaboratively to solve an annual robotics challenge in inclusive, creative learning environments in schools and local communities. FIRST is backed by a global network of mentors, educators, volunteers, sponsors, parents, alumni, and program delivery partners.

 

Impact

We believe the impact of FIRST is profound. It's not just about robots or competition; it's about helping to build kids through building robots. The impact can be seen in the growth of all those who participate. Statistics from the FIRST Longitudinal Study and our internal studies show:

  • 69% Increase in Teamwork Skills

  • 70% Increase in Communication Skills

  • Women involved in FIRST are 32% more likely to major in engineering or computer science

  • 99% of our team members go on to attend college

  • 78% of all FIRST Alumni are in STEM related fields
